Hoi An Vietnam
March 2027
March 2027
This March, I’m thrilled to join Anna Barnes’ Art, Food & Culture Experience in Hoi An, Vietnam — a beautifully crafted slow-travel retreat where creativity meets everyday life in one of the most vibrant places on earth.
Anna’s experiences are far from ordinary tours. They’re immersive journeys through color, food, textiles, markets, and living culture, all designed to slow you down and open your senses. With small groups, meaningful local connections, and mindful exploration at every turn, this is travel that stays with you long after you return home.
And I’m especially happy to be the guest sketching tutor on this trip — bringing my watercolor and urban sketching approach into this world of incredible light, rich food culture, and everyday scenes waiting to be captured.
What You’ll Learn With Me
Whether you love slow, thoughtful sketching full of details or you just want to capture the spirit of a moment, my workshops are designed to meet you where you are.
I believe watercolor sketching should feel simple, structured, and adaptable — a way to observe your surroundings without feeling overwhelmed. On this retreat, you’ll learn how to:
Break down complex street scenes into approachable shapes
Use simple structures to build confidence in composition
Blend loose washes with expressive linework
Capture atmosphere, light, movement, and mood
Sketch both detailed scenes and quick, spontaneous impressions
Tell your own visual stories in a cohesive travel journal
I teach in a calm, supportive way that gives you both the tools you need and the space to make it your own.
Why Hoi An? Why This Retreat?
Hoi An is a place of luminous colors — from woven textiles to vibrant markets and lantern-lit evenings. It’s ideal for watercolor sketching because every corner seems to tell a story. Here you’ll sketch alongside local life: bustling market vendors, rice-field vistas at sunrise, quiet family meals, and the rhythm of daily routines.
Anna’s focus on ethical slow travel means we’ll experience Vietnam through meaningful encounters, from family homes to hidden river walks, always with space to reflect, breathe, and create.
